Amazon patents Google Glass clone that may give warehouse workers cyborg vision

Amazon may be making a Google Glass clone that could actually be practical.

The wearable device described in a newly published patent could be used to turn Jeff Bezos’s army of warehouse employees into pseudo-cyborgs that can quickly identify items for shipping.

The glasses sport a wearable computer that recognizes where objects are located in a given area. The glasses also have an imaging sensor that could recognize objects associated with a given task. The sensor might also recognize package markings like mailing addresses, bar codes, or QR codes.

The cool thing about these glasses is that they provide specific textual information in the lens, allowing for error-free identification, all the while letting the user keep their hands free.

When the sensor in the glasses recognizes the target object, it might deliver instructions to the wearer about what to do with the item. Or it might simply deliver more information about the object, such as its shipping destination or shipping method.

The Amazon technology is another example of eye wearables finding a use case in an industrial or enterprise setting. Consumers, on the other had, have had little use for them.
