Apple TV may get live channels from Time Warner Cable next

The next video content service to appear on Apple’s set-top box Apple TV could be Time Warner Cable, according to a Bloomberg report that cites anonymous sources familiar with the talks.

If true, those that want access to the TWC programming on Apple TV would still need to subscribe to a monthly cable TV package. However, the user interface for the Apple TV will likely be far better than what you’re currently using through the rented cable box provided by TWC.

Last month, Apple added a handful of new services to the Apple TV’s list of apps, including HBO Go, Anime service CrunchyRoll, WatchESPN, concert service Qello, and SkyNews. It was a nice move for Apple TV owners who patiently waited for the company to catch up to the many other streaming media boxes that already offered such services. Now, it appears that the streaming service for TWC will also get added to that list.

TWC’s appearance on Apple TV would hardly be a surprising move. The cable TV provider already gives its paying subscribers to access live channels on the iPad, provided you’re connected to your home Internet connection. TWC’s live channels are also available on the Roku. More recently, the company announced that it would make over 300 live channels available to Xbox 360 owners, too.
