It looks like none of the major auto manufacturers wants to be left out when Apple revolutionizes the car dashboard with its CarPlay platform.
Today Apple announced that nine more car companies will include CarPlay integration into vehicles either this year or next, including Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Mazda, and Ram. That doesn’t mean all cars from these companies will feature the integration, but a handful of models will.
CarPlay, which officially debuted back in March, is Apple’s way of extending the functionality of your iPhone (and other iOS devices) to your car in a way that won’t affect your ability to drive safely. Apple already announced that the technology would be coming to new vehicles from several car manufacturers, premiering first in Mercedes-Benz and Volvo vehicles. The company is also making CarPlay available in aftermarket in-dash players from Alpine, which means you can get the functionality in any old busted up hooptie.
We don’t know which vehicles will feature CarPlay at this point, but we’ll let you know once the announcements start to roll out.
