Apple's iWatch will reportedly sport multiple designs and over 10 sensors

Apple may be taking a cue from Samsung and Google for its upcoming smartwatch.

Following yesterday’s rumor about the so-called iWatch beginning production soon with a 2.5-inch display, the Wall Street Journal is now reporting that Apple is planning to feature multiple designs for the iWatch.

Samsung already offers different versions of its Galaxy Gear smartwatch — including one variant, the Gear Fit, that is mostly for activity tracking — and Google has shown off Android Wear, its wearable platform, running on smartwatches with both square and round screens.

If true, this latest iWatch rumor could be good news for people with smaller wrists. The 2.5-inch iWatch display rumored yesterday seemed surprisingly large for a mainstream device.

Additionally, the WSJ notes that the iWatch will include more than 10 different sensors, including some for health and fitness tracking. Apple basically showed its hand at its developer conference a few weeks ago, where it announced a new Health app for iOS 8 but didn’t announce any hardware that could send health data to that app.

The WSJ corroborates Reuters’ rumor from yesterday by pointing to Quanta, a longtime Apple manufacturer for Mac computers, as the company building Apple’s iWatch. The paper also expects the iWatch to be available around October, though it anticipates production to begin in August or September, a bit later than what Retuers reported.
