As August Home expands its ecosystem of devices and services that integrate with its suite of smart home products, it has added one more: Amazon. Starting today, you can use your Amazon Echo, Tap, or Echo Dot to monitor the August smart lock and check if it’s locked using just the sound of your voice.
“Amazon Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices have captivated consumers with the ability to integrate voice into the smart home,” said August CEO Jason Johnson.

Once this is successfully completed, you’ll only have to utter commands like “Hey Alexa, lock my door” (or something equivalent) — no longer will you have to get up from your couch while watching TV or roll out of bed after a long day to check if your doors are locked.
“We’re excited to work with August to expand our smart home capabilities by launching an Alexa skill for Smart Lock, the first-ever Alexa-enabled Smart Lock,” said Amazon’s director for its Alexa Smart Home division, Charlie Kindel.

While it’s notable that you can now use Amazon devices to secure your home, August also does the same thing with Siri, thanks to its inclusion of HomeKit support within its second-generation smart lock. Unveiled in October and shipped in April, the latest version of the August Home can now be controlled through an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple Watch, and 4th-generation Apple TV. Users need only say “Siri, lock my door” or ask “Siri, is my door locked?” to get an action or response.
By integrating itself with smart home platforms such as Amazon Alexa, August is ensuring that more people are able to see the appeal of its smart lock. And it doesn’t matter what product you have, you’ll still be able to control August Home using your voice.
