Chrome for Android and iOS passes 800M monthly active users, up from 400M a year ago

During its Chrome Dev Summit event, Google announced that its browser has passed 800 million monthly active users on mobile. Put another way, the number of Chrome for Android and iOS users has doubled from the 400 million figure shared just a year ago. That’s the type of impressive growth that any mobile app maker would kill to see.

The company doesn’t break down the 800 million number across Android and iOS. While there are undoubtedly more Chrome for Android users, it’s safe to say Chrome for iOS use is not insignificant.

Chrome is now also pushing 350 million notifications every day, coming from 2,300 sites and counting. “Not only is the web not dead, adoption of the web is growing dramatically, particularly on mobile and this is opening up huge opportunities,” Google said.

At its Google I/O 2015 conference in May, Google revealed that Chrome now has 1 billion users. While that figure naturally has grown since, this still puts into perspective just how many users are also using Google’s browser on mobile.

Google today also shared a little more about Polymer, the company’s web app toolkit designed to help developers bring high-quality app-like experiences to the browser, across both desktop and mobile. Since launching Polymer 1.0 at I/O, the tool has grown quite a bit.

Polymer is now used on over 1 million webpages and in over 300 projects within Google, and web components are growing support across browsers. For more information about Polymer, check out these links: quick tour, Polymer Summit talks, Polymer codelabs, and the Polymer Starter Kit.
