Facebook Messenger has added support for Spotify, allowing you to share your favorite songs and playlists with friends. It’s the first music-based service integration for the messaging platform. This is rolling out today and Facebook said will be “available broadly soon.”

When you’re in Facebook Messenger, tap on the “…” button in a chat window to select Spotify. From there, choose a song, artist, or playlist that you want to send your friend and that’s it. If you receive a Spotify share, just tap on it and the music app will open to play the file.

While this is the first music integration for Messenger, it shouldn’t be surprising, especially since Facebook wants to give us more ways to express ourselves creatively — it already allows us to post emojis and animated GIFs through its Messenger platform. And as messaging services start to become the way we interact not only with friends but also with businesses, it’s important for Facebook and other companies to have the right partners.

This is certainly a good move for Spotify because it opens itself up to more users, especially as it fights for market dominance against the likes of Apple Music, Tidal, Pandora, and others. The company has made quite a few integrations over the past year or so, such as with Google’s Chromecast, Starbucks, and Amazon.
