Google rolled out an update to Google Maps for iOS on Wednesday that allows users in navigation mode to receive spoken traffic alerts “about congestion and incidents on your route.” It can also “give you a summary of traffic before you drive.”
The update (version 4.12.0) brings with it the ability to “easily add new and missing businesses from the sidebar.” Google Maps for Android was updated with spoken traffic and congestion alerts back in May.

Google also just overhauled Waze, the community-based traffic and navigation app that it bought for a reported $1.3 billion two years ago, marking its first major update since the acquisition.

Apple Maps, meanwhile, introduced its automated spoken traffic and construction warnings feature with the iOS 9 rollout in September. The new features, which are designed to operate while the vehicle is moving, have left some users looking for ways to turn them off.
