The mystique keeps us guessing, and the public sure is happy to keep the momentum alive. Over the last year we’ve heard of different iPhone lengths, the materials it will be made from, thinner casing, new battery, smaller charging dock, larger screens, new chips, and a lot more.
What do we know for sure? The latest operating system iOS 6 is in production and has some nifty new features for the next line of Apple mobile devices. These include a new maps application, Facebook integration, and Siri integration for the iPad (did we mention the iPad mini rumors?!). Some apps may be missing from iOS 6, however, such as the Google-owned property YouTube.

All signs also seem to point toward a launch date of September 12 with a ship date of September 21. It looks like both Verizon and AT&T blocked out employee vacation days during that time period, presumably so they can keep staff on hand for a big event like an iPhone launch. Sprint also cut its iPhone 4S pricing from $200 to $150 and offers free activation for purchases made online. Apple followed suit with its iPhone 4S pricing, but only if you ask for it at purchase.
