LG G4 will be the first non-Nexus smartphone to get Marshmallow update

It looks like the LG G4 will be the first Android smartphone anywhere in the world to receive the Marshmallow 6.0 update — excluding Google’s own line of Nexus devices — starting with Poland next week, and “other markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas to follow.”

“By working closely with Google, LG has been able to bring Android 6.0 to the G4 ahead of any of our competitors,” the company’s vice president and head of marketing communications, Chris Yie, said in a statement. “While speed alone isn’t an indicator of great service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG is committed to its existing customers first.”

We went hands-on with LG’s flagship smartphone, with its pro camera features and curved leather back, when it was launched in April, and also pitted it against the Samsung Galaxy S6. Our conclusion was that “You can’t really go wrong with either of these devices… If you want a bigger phone, but one that’s more power-user friendly and customizable, go with the G4.”
