Ed Brill is the director for enterprise mobile marketing at IBM, and we caught up with him recently to find out how IBM is helping support Sprint Velocity, a technology that will bring real-time communication and some really cool automation to your moving vehicle.

That includes software, analysis and testing tools, as well as strategic consulting.
“IBM is both a supplier … and a builder,” Brill says. “A lot of apps that consumers know [were built by us], they just don’t see the IBM brand.”
The partnership with Sprint helps enable a product called Sprint Velocity, which lets you remotely start your car via an app, set the climate control, turn on the radio, and select the music.
“The technology on the back end that helps that scale is all IBM technology,” Brill says, using IBM MessageSight. That’s an appliance that can handle 6 million concurrent transactions and process each of them in less than a second.
Using MessageSight in this connected car solution, Brill says, is an important early step in building the “Internet of things.”
Machine-to-machine communication is the biggest growth area in enterprise mobility, and another key part of the Internet of things build-out.
Brill discusses IBM’s approach to mobile technology and the advice it gives its enterprise customers in this video, shot at VentureBeat’s recent MobileBeat conference in San Francisco.
