Nest‘s learning thermostat might be all about mastering the climate inside your house, but one of the most-requested features from users was knowing the temperature outside. So the company has added that capability in its latest software update.
In the 4.3 update, Nest includes a new Quick View home menu that shows the temperature outside, an improved auto-schedule feature, and a “system test” utility for catching issues.
The new Quick View menu appears with one push of the thermostat’s ring. It shows various icons, corresponding to the temperature outside, what program is up next, how much energy you saved yesterday, and so on. Turning the ring shows a quick summary for each item.
Auto-Schedule, a core feature of the thermostat, which learns temperature schedules based on users’ behaviors, has also been updated. The new version takes into account the entire usage history of the thermostat, not just a recent period, to better and more quickly pick up new patterns.
The last feature in the update is the System Test, which lets homeowners check to make sure that their heating and cooling systems are working properly.
Nest will start rolling out the 4.3 update today, but it might take until the end of the week to hit all thermostats, the company says.
