AT&T rep: Apple says no iPhone 5 in June/July

Here we go again: An AT&T representative is now saying that Apple has “officially” informed the carrier that there will be no new iPhone this June or July, reports MacRumors.

This latest gossip is in line with the rumors that Apple will release it’s newest must-have smartphone, the iPhone 5, in September or even later this year.

This is a major change for Apple. The company has traditionally released new iPhones in the summer. Actually, there has been speculation that one thing behind Nokia’s current troubles was Apple’s product-release cycle. All Nokia’s Finnish executives were on their summer cottages in July and they couldn’t react to Apple’s products until after their vacations in the fall.

VentureBeat’s Devindra Hardawar pointed out earlier that a fall release could probably suit Apple very well. The technology for LTE 4G networks are developing rapidly and there is a good possibility that Apple could deliver the phones with LTE chipsets if they were released later this year. Another thing is that the anticipation will be gigantic if iPhone junkies will have to wait until September instead of the normal summer release-cycle.

Also the almost simultaneous release of iPhone 5 and the rumored iPad 3 would offer two new flagship devices for the iOS 5 operating system, which is also rumored to come this fall.

And of course Apple released the Verizon iPhone in February and the white iPhone 4 in April. Apple might want to build some anticipation before any new iPhone releases
