Amid yet another disappointing quarterly earnings report from Nokia, there was a glimmer of hope for its Lumia Windows Phone lineup.
Nokia announced today that it shipped 7.4 million Lumias in the second quarter of 2013 — a record high figure for the company, and a hefty jump from the 5.6 million Lumias it sold last quarter.

BlackBerry looks even worse if you add in the 4.3 million Asha smartphones Nokia shipped during Q2 (low-end smartphones meant for emerging markets).
Just as we’ve seen in Nokia’s recent quarters, Lumia shipments still aren’t making much of a dent in North America, despite increasing support from mobile carriers. Nokia shipped only 500,000 Lumias in North America, compared to 6.9 million in other countries.

Beyond the Lumia, though, the quarter didn’t look so good for Nokia. The company reported an operating loss of around $151 million, which was below what it expected. Still, that’s better than the $1 billion operating loss it posted this time a year ago.
