An app for Pinterest, the website that lets you share photos in a “pin-board” fashion, may be arriving on Android soon. The company reportedly is listed as among exhibitors coming to this week’s Google I/O conference, a gathering of Android-related developers.
Pinterest is listed in the Google I/O app as “Now available for Android,” reports the Australian gadget site Ausdroid. The entry also lists Pinterest senior software engineer Cynthia Maxwell and Mobile Engineer Carl Rice as company representatives at the Google gathering.
However, the company tells VentureBeat not to hold your breath.
“In terms of anything being announced there, we’re excited about the Android platform and are working hard on building a great app. However, we don’t have plans to announce anything at I/O,” spokeswoman Erica Billups told VentureBeat today. Pinterest will be doing demos in a developer “sandbox” at the conference, according to Billups.

An Android version of the popular iOS app would not be completely unexpected. The company has previously said they are “working on a dedicated Android app” and would announce a product “when we feel we are in the final stages of its development.” While iPhone users are able to easily pin photos using a lush application, Android users are forced to use a mobile website.
Talk of the photo-sharing app coming to the Android platform is just the latest boost for the Google operating system which has often been slighted by developers. Last week, Flipboard, the popular iOS app that turns your plain RSS feeds into a flashy magazine-styled layout, finally made its way to Android smartphones.
Other iOS apps, such as Instapaper and Instagram have also migrated to Android. Previously, Android was seen lagging behind Apple’s iOS mobile platform in developer support. But now Android appears to be booming.
