The bending issues surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as well as the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are blown out of proportion when you consider the wide array of durability tests smartphone makers perform on their devices. So what happens when you compare all four phones? The Galaxy S6 wins, according to extended warranty service provider SquareTrade.
The Galaxy S6 was found to be the least bendable, surviving 110 pounds of pressure (the Galaxy S6 Edge cracked, while Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus bent). This wasn’t too surprising, given what we’ve seen so far. Without further ado, here are the rest of the tests:
The new glass Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge slid farther than any of the other phones, but they survived six drops from six feet high without breaking. The iPhone 6 Plus broke apart entirely and stopped working 30 minutes later. All the phones performed equally when dunked into water for ten seconds.

In the previous bend test we saw earlier this month, both the S6 and iPhone 6 were missing. The iPhone 6 missing wasn’t too big of a surprise given it had a better track record for bending than its bigger brother, but not having the S6 tested was particularly frustrating since it was clear it would be more popular than its edgy cousin.
Now we have a better idea at how the flagships from Samsung and Apple stand, at least according to SquareTrade:
The breakability score compares each device based on physical characteristics and the results of SquareTrade’s drop, dunk, slide, and bend tests. “The higher a device scores, the higher the risk of it breaking due to an everyday accident,” the company said.
Remember that these are tests and they can’t always represent how devices will fare in the real world. That said, in terms of durability, the S6 is indeed a worthy successor to the S5.
