Samsung’s $179 Gear Fit2 global rollout starts today with the U.S. and 6 other markets

We knew it was coming, but Samsung’s latest fitness wearable, the Gear Fit2, is available to buy in stores today.

The $179 Gear Fit2, which arrives more than two years after Samsung announced its first fitness band, comes in two sizes and sports a broader curved surface than its Gear Fit predecessor.

Samsung says the band can automatically recognize what activity the user is engaged in, including cycling, running, and lunges. Crucially, it comes with a number of notable new features, such as a barometer and GPS.

The Gear Fit2 is Samsung’s latest stab at the wearables market and lands less than a month after the launch of its new “Charm” activity band — though that device is limited to just a handful of markets, including South Korea, Italy, France, and Russia. While the Gear Fit line has full-featured bands that include a screen, the Charm is designed more as a fashion bracelet-style accessory that relies on color-coded alerts.

Preorders for the Samsung Gear Fit2 kicked off on June 3, and although we knew the Korean tech titan planned to make it available to buy in stores from June 10, the company has now given a little more clarity to its rollout plans. From today, the Gear Fit2 will be available in seven markets — the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Australia — with other countries around the world to follow.
