With its latest upgrade, smart calendar Mynd is offering a new sort of premium experience.
On top of Mynd’s standard features of uniting your calendar, contacts, Evernote account, and LinkedIn profile, the iPhone app’s new “Inside Mynd” premium feature can show you how you’re spending your time.
With competition heating up in the smart calendar space, I suspect we’ll see similar apps trying to differentiate themselves with unique features. Max Wheeler, Mynd’s founder and CEO, likens the new premium feature to fitness apps that can track your health. The Inside Mynd feature lets you link events in your calendar to your goals and friends, so you can quickly see if you’re spending as much time exercising or catching up with friends as you think you are.
Mynd’s premium offering also lets you see the places and people connected to your past meetings; tally the miles you drive for work; and get traffic-based alerts for your next meeting (a feature that used to be free in Mynd’s earlier app and will remain free for its previous users). The company is also offering priority email support for premium customers.

All Mynd users get to test out the premium functionality for 14 days. After that, it’s available as an in-app subscription starting at $7 a month, or up to $50 a year.
For those who don’t want to pay for Mynd’s premium capabilities, there are still plenty of upgrades in the new app. Now you can create a Mynd account, allowing you to carry over your accounts and settings to other devices; directly share Evernote notes; and assign tasks to specific categories.
I haven’t had a chance to check out Mynd’s new app yet, but we selected its previous app as one of the top 5 smart calendar apps on the market. The new features seem like a useful evolutionary jump, and they may even tempt users who would typically ignore smart calendar apps.
Alminder, the San Francisco-based company behind Mynd, has raised around $1.5 million in seed funding from Tugboat Ventures and Concur.
