Toshiba’s latest flagship TV is big, beautiful, and won’t fit in your living room

Japanese electronics giant Toshiba has debuted a stunning new 84-inch television that will challenge Sony, Samsung, and LG in the high-end 4K TV market.

I was able to see the 84-inch L9300 Series Ultra HD 4K LED TV in person at a CES product showcase hosted by Toshiba in Las Vegas. The set did not disappoint in the least. The color reproduction was vivid, and the sample video looked incredible. 4K Ultra HD TVs go beyond 1080p and show a resolution of 3,840-by-2,160 pixels, so it’s an intense experience.

While the TV was impressive, it’s simply absurd to think that it would fit in most living rooms. And on top of that, there is hardly any content being filmed today that can take advantage of the set’s 4K tech. At this point, it’s simply a showcase for what this company can produce and what’s to come in TV technology.

The L9300 Series Ultra HD LED TV will also be available in still-large-but-more-reasonable 58-inch and 65-inch sizes. While Toshiba didn’t give out pricing information, we’d expect the largest set will run for more than $20,000 because Sony’s XBR-84X900 4K Ultra HD TV also runs above that price.

We’ll likely see more 4K TVs showcased at CES this week, so stay tuned.
