Aviate, Yahoo’s smart homescreen app for Android, is getting a search function to help you find exactly what you want in your phone.
The app, which Yahoo originally released back in June, is a location-sensitive, intelligent Android homescreen that pulls up various apps as you go about your day, based on location and presumed activity (news apps in the morning, productivity apps while you’re at work, and so on). Now, with its newly added search function, users can run a search directly from the homescreen without opening a browser or additional app. It displays results from your apps, contacts, and web results powered by Yahoo.
Yahoo revealed back in January that it had acquired Aviate from the San Francisco, Calif.-based startup ThumbsUp Labs. Aviate is a natural fit into Yahoo’s pursuit of becoming a “daily habit” for users, the place on the web where they go first in the morning and throughout their day for all kinds of needs.

The new function is first only available for English-speaking users in the U.S., but Yahoo says it will make it available more widely soon.
