Yahoo has overhauled its mail app for Android, adding a bunch of new features, including news, search, weather, videos and Flickr images.
Yahoo said in a blog post today it hopes to spare mobile users “the hassle of switching between apps” and, ostensibly, to get people to spend more time in Yahooland.

The Mail section looks the same as the old mail app. An All Stories section contains personalized news feeds. And finally, a Today screen displays local weather, sports scores, news headlines, popular videos, and Flickr photos.
The new Android app comes just weeks after Yahoo announced Yahoo Mail for iPhone and iPod Touch. The two apps offer the same content; only the navigation is slightly different.

Yahoo Mail product manager Andrew Molyneux said the Android app contains some Android-specific functionality, but he was light on the details in the blog post. He said only that Android users can swipe right and left on the screen to switch between mail, search, weather, videos, and images.
The new app is available now at the Google Play store, but the All Stories and Today features will be rolling out to supported Android devices in the next few days, Yahoo said.
