Nest Labs is holding a product announcement event next week, and if a recent FCC filing is any indication the new product is a wireless security camera.
Nest’s testing lab in Taiwan submitted its test report on a Nest “wireless camera” to the FCC for approval in early March. The documents became public record in late May.
The documents contain no images of the product, but refer to it as a “wireless camera.”
A new Nest camera would be the third product the company has launched, the first two being a smart thermometer and a smart fire alarm. The new camera would likely operate on Google’s new Brillo Internet of Things operating system.

Google acquired Nest in early 2014. Shortly after that, Nest acquired the security cam maker Dropcam, but Nest has delivered no new products since then. It’s possible the regulatory compliance documents for a new Dropcam product were filed under the Nest name.
So the new product we’ll see next week could very well be a Brillo-connected Dropcam security camera.
