Whistleblower and former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden has finally joined Twitter — and he’s already been verified by the social network, so we know this one’s for real.
The first tweet sports a rather innocuous “Can you hear me?” message, perhaps an homage to the Verizon “test guy” commercials. And perhaps the most notable facet of Edward Snowden’s new account is that he is only following one other Twitter user — the NSA.
Can you hear me now?
— Edward Snowden (@Snowden) September 29, 2015
More than two years after fleeing the U.S. with a host of confidential secrets relating to numerous governments of the world, Snowden still lives in his Russian exile. Two months ago, a We The People petition requesting that the White House pardon Snowden was rejected, and it’s not something the U.S. government is likely to reconsider any time soon.

Snowden hasn’t been accessible to the public until now, but with a Twitter account in tow, it will be interesting to see if he’ll engage with the public, or perhaps even divulge more top-secret information directly to his followers.
