facebook app center

Facebook’s App Center, the social network’s answer to Google Play and Apple’s iTunes App Store, is finally rolling out to non-English-speaking countries around the world.

“Earlier this month we began accepting submissions for translated app detail pages,” a Facebook rep wrote in an email to VentureBeat. “As of today, the App Center is available to 100 percent of people in Brazil, France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey.”

Apps will also be customized based on location — different content for different countries.

For example, if you’re in the UK, you’ll probably see the BBC Sport app. French Facebook users will likely see music app Deezer pop up; likewise Brazilian users are more likely to see Terra, and German users EyEm.

Basically, the Facebook App Center is a lot like the App Store and Google Play in that it’s an app directory, complete with screenshots, ratings, and reviews. But it’s different in that it works across all platforms: all types of smartphones and tablets as well as the desktop. From the App Center, users can preview apps before downloading them.

The App Store first started rolling out to U.S. users around six weeks ago. The App Center was announced in May. The international launch had to wait for translations of app pages.

Here’s an overview of the App Center that includes some of the developer and analytics features:
