Facebook launches Security Checkup tool globally to teach you what you should already know

Facebook wants you to know about the security-centric tools that are already in your Facebook account, so in the coming weeks (possibly from today) you’ll start seeing a little prompt at the top of your feed asking you to go through a three-step process. Or you can kickstart it yourself today by going here.

Today’s launch comes a few months after Facebook first revealed it was testing the feature. But now it’s available for everyone.

The first stage in the Security Checkup process basically tells you how you can log out of any device you haven’t used in a while, perhaps that old Android tablet that’s sitting in the car.

Related to this, Facebook will show you how to set up alerts so that whenever your account is logged in on a new device, you’ll receive an email or Facebook notification.

The final stage in the process will simply be about showing how to create a strong password — there won’t be anything Earth-shattering here, just don’t use “Facebook” or “Password” as your passwords, OK?

Security Checkup is only available on the desktop for now, but with so much Facebook activity now on mobile, the social network giant says it will be arriving for smartphones soon too.

Today’s launch comes almost a year after Facebook introduced a similar feature for privacy, narrated by a cute blue dinosaur.
