Instagram gets face-tagging with ‘Photos of You’ feature

Just like in Facebook, you can now tag faces in Instagram photos. Of course, it's not just for adding other people's usernames to your own pics; you'll also get to see pics people are tagging you in.

Instagram Photos of You

Finally, Instagram is getting the Facebook-like ability to tag people in photos, actually attaching a username to a face.

Here’s what it looks like in practice:

Of course, it’s not just for adding other people’s usernames to your own photos; you’ll also get to see pics people are tagging you in. When someone tags you in a photo, you’ll get a notification in the app and the picture will automatically show up in your “Photos of You” section inside Instagram.

You can set the feature to not show pics automatically but instead require approval for each tag that pops up, you shady party animal, you.

To get the Photos of You feature, just install the latest app version — Instagram for iOS version 3.5 in the App Store and Instagram for Android version 3.5 in the Google Play Store.

Instagram is giving users until May 16 to use the new feature and futz around with the settings. At that point, the Photos of You section will become visible on your profile.

The company also released this pretty little commercial video. Aww.

In parent company Facebook’s big earnings call yesterday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Instagram was the company’s fastest-growing product and that he was excited to keep its numbers booming — especially before any advertising starts popping into the experience.
