Online payments powerhouse PayPal has launched a new Facebook application called Send Money that makes sending payments to your Facebook friends incredibly easy.

PayPal has been dipping its toes into all kinds of payment technologies across mobile and social, and just a week ago PayPal updated its Android application to enable NFC (near-field communications) payments.

The company’s foray into easy social payments with the new Facebook app, however, is a simple, common-sense move. Facebook has more than 750 million users and a huge number of them likely have active PayPal accounts, so why not make it possible to easily send cash from one Facebook user to another?

“The PayPal and Facebook infrastructure have now merged,” PayPal’s Anuj Nayar told Mashable. “This is another way to personalize the act of giving money.”

Thankfully, the peer-to-peer payments through Send Money are free. But PayPal’s international fees and standard limitations do still apply.

With it being free to send money through PayPal, it’s not hard to imagine this gaining at least some traction. Instead of writing a check or sending cash in the mail, why not just send it through Facebook?
