The tweets of yesteryear were no less entertaining than the tweets of today. So then why should the fall into the abyss that is Twitter search, never to be found again? Twitter agrees and today opened up the ability to search for old tweets based on hashtags and keywords.

Twitter announced the change in a blog post today saying the feature will be rolled out over the next few days, replacing the old search that only allowed you to go back a week. The company has built an algorithm, which includes amount of interactions with that tweet, to decide which older tweets show. These interactions include retweets, favorites, and clicks.

Yesterday, the company introduced a number of changes to its iPhone and Android applications as well. In an attempt to simplify the way people find content, Twitter overhauled its “Discover” tab, now putting suggestions, activity, trends, and tweets into one stream. Search also got an overhaul, putting photos, tweets and relevant accounts into its own stream.

The connect tab got the same treatment. Twitter also changed linking experience, taking you directly to the website once a link is clicked as opposed to an “expanded” view.
