With his own account, Al Gore can finally claim to have invented Twitter too

Back in September during Current TV’s Hack the Debate event, former vice president Al Gore (a cofounder of Current) admitted he did not have an account on the micro-messaging service Twitter (which was helped with the event), but promised to create one by that weekend. A few days turned to weeks, a few weeks turned to months… Still, there was no Al Gore on Twitter — until today.

Yes, the Nobel Prize and Academy Award-winning man has an official Twitter account. All of those tricked yesterday into thinking the username TheRealAlGore, was in fact the real Al Gore, can send a thousand Qwitter messages that guy’s way, because the actual true Al Gore’s account is al_gore.

He’s gotten over 2,000 friends already in a few hours. Expect thousands more if he actually uses the service. So far he has but one tweet (Twitter message): “Just signed up for Twitter. Please check out http://www.algore.com/ and http://www.repoweramerica.org/.”

Boring Mr. Gore! We want to know what you’re having for dinner!

Twitter has seen huge increases in usage numbers and signups during the political season. Gaining a user in the man who once won the popular vote while running for president in 2000 (but, of course, lost the electoral vote, and thus, the presidency) is a fitting end to the season.
