E3 2016: What to expect from Nintendo — Zelda Wii U and no NX console

Mario publisher Nintendo is in an awkward phase between the struggling Wii U console and the upcoming NX system, and its presence at next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo tradeshow is a little weird because of that transition.

E3 starts this Sunday, and Nintendo — like it does every year — will have a livestream at 9 a.m. Pacific time Tuesday. But it won’t have a ton of announcements because it’s focusing on the next The Legend of Zelda. It also won’t show off its next console yet despite the news that Zelda is hitting that platform at the same time as the Wii U. Let’s run down the basics about how you can watch, then you get the details about what Nintendo has confirmed and the rumors that are swirling about the company.

What: Nintendo is planning a multiple-day stream on Twitch.

• Pokémon Sun and Moon (3DS)
• Monster Hunter Generations (3DS)
• Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (3DS)
• Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)

Again, the only playable kiosks on the show floor will be Zelda, but the publisher is planning to show off the other games during its livestreams throughout the week. We also expect the company to show off Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for mobile in some fashion.

These are unconfirmed and could prove untrue, but rumors are a huge part of E3.

• Nintendo is repeatedly saying the NX, its next dedicated console, won’t be at E3. We believe it.
• Zelda may give players the option to play as a female Link.
• Zelda may also have voice acting.
• The sequel to cult classic Earthbound, Mother 3, may finally get localized for North America.
